Microsoft Office: To insert a Unicode character, type the character code, press ALT, and then press X. For example, to type the beamed eighth note symbol (♫), type 266B or U+266B, press ALT, and then press X. Alternately, you can manually insert symbols from the Insert tab and clicking Symbols.
Apple Pages: To insert the Unicode character, go to the Special Characters pallet in the top menu. Then search for the character by typing in its name or unicode number. Double-click the symbol to insert it into your document.
Some common unicode characters that can be used in worship folders are U+2629 (☩), U+2719 (✙), U+271D (✝), U+266B (♫), U+266C (♬), U+1F13C (🄼), U+1F172 (🅲), and U+00A9 (©). The unicode characters will often reflect the style of the system font you are using.
